Care after your surgery

A guide to a comfortable recovery

Preparing for surgery isn’t just about the moment of the procedure. It’s crucial to understand what to expect during the post-operative period and to be mentally and physically prepared for it. In this section, we provide you with valuable information on the care you need after surgery, so that you can prepare properly and face your recovery journey with confidence and peace of mind. Check out our tips and guidelines for a smooth and comfortable recovery:

1) Maintain a Light and Balanced Diet: Choose light foods, rich in lean proteins, vitamins and minerals. Avoid fatty foods and seafood, and don’t forget to stay well hydrated!

2) Respect Sleeping Guidelines: Each type of surgery may require a specific sleeping position. Follow your doctor’s instructions to ensure adequate rest and a complication-free recovery.

3) Pay attention to movement: Some surgeries may impose restrictions on your movements. Follow your doctor’s instructions on postures and movement limitations to ensure a smooth recovery.

4) Avoid Excessive Effort: During the recovery period, avoid excessive effort, such as climbing long flights of stairs. However, it is important to walk lightly to help prevent thrombosis.

5) Remember to avoid, until you have been discharged:

  • Exposure to sunlight and fluorescent lighting.
  • Driving
  • Using medications such as aspirin or other anticoagulants, unless they are prescribed for post-operative administration.

6) Post-surgical medical follow-up: Medical follow-up after surgery is essential to ensure satisfactory results. You may receive recommendations for supporting procedures, such as lymphatic drainage, dermatofunctional maneuvers or other physiotherapy approaches, to optimize your recovery.

7) Don’t Forget your Follow-up Appointments: Scheduling and attending post-surgical follow-ups is key to ensuring that you are on track for a full recovery.

Possible complications and how to manage them

Even with all the pre- and post-operative care, it’s important to be aware that some complications can occur during the recovery process. Don’t worry, we’re here to support you! Below, we’ve listed a few situations that can arise and what to do if you experience them.

  • Swelling and bruising are common after surgery. Follow your doctor’s guidelines to manage them properly and prevent them from becoming permanent blemishes.
  • Skin Changes: Changes in skin pigmentation, with the appearance of spots or discoloration, or loss of biological vitality and/or sensitivity in certain areas of skin.
  • Accumulation of fluids, blood and/or secretions: These are usually temporary and can be treated by drainage and/or surgical dressings and/or surgical revision. It is therefore important to stick to the post-surgical follow-up schedule.
  • Discomfort and sensations: You may feel pain, itching or discomfort in the operated area, but these symptoms usually subside over time.
  • Emotional Disorders: It is normal to experience anxiety or depression during the recovery process. Don’t hesitate to seek emotional support if necessary.
